I was offered and declined a few gigs outside of this JoonBug blog; they wanted short, concise, five hundred word, sound bite filled posts. I declined. The story I’m trying to tell will be told long, and that’s well and good for a highly unregulated blog. But for the house DJ legends who also require time to weave their story, there simply are too few venues. Pacha, for the most part, is the only venue where DJs can go until the next day, and the dedicated house heads will pay a high admission price to dance past dawn. The compression of the set is artistically unacceptable, and so the rest of the world enjoys these great talents while we are severely oppressed. Sure a Tiesto pops into Webster Hall once in awhile and a Bob Sinclar will play Mansion, but we are no longer the most important city in the world for dance music. If Pacha gets closed down, and the city keeps trying to do that, then this invaluable artistic form will be hammered. Why is it so hard for our city planners to embrace what the people want? Every major city in the “free” world embraces its arts, celebrates them, advertises and promotes them. Yet, this town does its’ damnest to suppress them. Maybe our towns’ slogan should change from, “The city that doesn’t sleep” to “The city that goes to sleep right after the 10 o’clock news.” Or how about, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, and none of that shit is allowed in New York anymore.

Rapid Roulette is definitely faster than regular Roulette primarily due to the non-use of chips, but this isn't really an advantage. I find myself constantly rushing through my play because of the time limit between games. I don't even have time to think about a number I want to play, partially because the wheel is distant and its view is obstructed. I can't see the actual wheel, the numbers, and the ball landing. Plus, the display touch screen is not perfectly accurate or user friendly. I've been making mistakes on this thing since it I first played it in Vegas years ago. And I like holding and playing with chips.

So Saturday morning after the routine breakfast and lunch drill we were supposed to leave. Once again I was not really excited about going there so kind of dropped the idea at the last minute and started watching TV and within minutes M started complaing about how we are postponing it for weeks. So I pulled myself together and started getting ready. The reason why I was not so enthusiastic about the Atlantic city trip is my stay in Cyprus. I was living on the sea front there and every evening we would take long walks on the sea front. Weekends meant shopping at the farmers market for fresh fruits vegetables and head towards the beach. There was a small rocky island within a small distance, so M and myself would carry a beer each and swim to that island, sit on those rocks soak up some sun, drink our beer and catch up with the stuff happened on the weekend. This was very unwinding and very romantic. So now if I have to drive two hours to get to a beach, it doesnt motivate me that much.
Anyways lets come back to the present, so on Saturday afternoon around four we started from home for Atlantic city. We totally forgot about the traffic part and it took us three and a half hours to reach Atlantic city. We parked our car in Bally Casino and came towards the shopping area to find a whole bunch of brand names like Banana Republic, GAP, Ralph Lauren..Well no points for guessing, I totally forgot about the beach and the boardwalk and entered into Banana Republic. Found a cute pair of white sandals and really cute almost grey metallic hand bag. Bought them without a second thought while husband was sulking for that I was wasting time shopping instead of going to the beach. Within minutes we headed towards the beach and it was almost dark. I was almost sure these guys will not get into water but booboo never fails to surprise me. The moment he saw water he ran towards he waves trying to catch them and I ran behind him. A big wave washed the shore and I could feel cold water on my legs and I immediately grabbed booboo and ran away from the water. Booboo was very disappointed and freed himself from my clutches and went to his dad and begged him to go towards the water. And that was the beginning of a wonderful experience. He enjoyed playing in the water immensely. What surprises me is that neither he was afraid of the darkness nor the cold water. Within minutes he was a all wet and rolling on the sand. And then he spots another older boy, almost 5 year old and both of them start laughing at each others jokes. Booboo never gets intimidated by anyone, its so difficult to embarrass him or scare him. After sometime the older boys mother came and he went away and booboo turned to his dad for companionship. This whole thing was so much fun.
I had to literally drag father and son from water and they took shower and got dressed. By the way did I mention anywhere that I did not pack any change of clothes or even towels because M said he wont get into water and I had to run and buy towels and clothes for father and sun while they were having fun in the water. Now all three of us were real hungry and ate a nice big pizza slice. Whenever we come Atlantic city its kind of a custom to eat funnel cake (American version of jalebi) and the curly fries. This time I did not like either and had to eat something good to take of the bad taste and what else can be better than fried ice cream with topped with fresh cream. Now this was awesome and I can suggest you guys to try it at least once. Booboo slept in the stroller after dinner and then we took a long walk on the board walk and I won a few soft toys in some of the arcade games and the M I went go karting, of course separately because on of had to be with booboo.
After the games and go karting it was casino time. Once again children are not allowed inside so we took turns, blew a hundred bucks and came back empty handed.
We headed back home an hour past midnight and it was a two hours drive. So the conclusion of the trip is that booboo is not scared of the sea and we need take him to Coney island this weekend. But no funnel cakes or curly fries this time.

Semi-clad, free-loving hippies, bearded protestors, androgynous purse-carrying wrist-swishers: it's the 60s and they're back! John McCain launched a major ad yesterday, "Love." It begins with stereotyped images of the 1960s and ends with cliched images of McCain.
The ad is the latest in a long and now tired history of Republican distortions of the 1960s for political gain. The tumultuous decade was not even over when Richard M. Nixon's handlers turned protests to their advantage, depicting the square Californian as the voice of the silent majority, ready to defend middle America against the excesses of campus protests and riots. His TV spots (check out "Convention" for a taste) were among the best ever produced: they depicted a dark, apocalyptic vision of America on the brink of apocalypse. Nixon's team perfected the message in 1972, portraying true straight-shooter and uptight South Dakotan George McGovern as the candidate of acid, amnesty, and abortion (he opposed the first, took more or less the same position as mainstream Republicans on the second, and had grave misgivings about the third). By then, running against the 60s became a standard bit of campaign fare: Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush positioned themselves as bulwarks against the madness of the era; even Democrats like Jimmy Carter positioned his prayerful and fiscally conservative self against the alleged excesses of the Great Society. The DLC made running against the 1960s the core of its two-decade-long effort to win back Reagan Democrats and capture business interests for the Democratic Party.
The Republican version of the 1960s was not--and is not--good history. The 1960s was as important a period in the rise of the New Right as it was for the left. Young Americans for Freedom was as big and influential as Students for a Democratic Society. The Campus Crusade for Christ remade student life in ways that were as far-reaching as the counterculture. Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George Wallace, Phyllis Schlafly, and Jesse Helms were as much products of the 1960s as Eugene McCarthy, Tom Hayden, Gloria Steinem, and Stokely Carmichael.
It's unfair to expect campaign ads to represent history accurately. But using the 1960s as political propaganda is probably not a winner this year. Sixteen years ago--when 1968 was a lot closer in memory--an anti-60s campaign failed. Smoking but not-inhaling, peace-protesting, womanizing Democratic candidate Bill Clinton dodged association with the 1960s just as successfully as he dodged the draft. Clinton may have been one of Newt Gingrich's "counterculture McGoverniks," but the label was not his undoing. Eight years later, the Republicans played the sixties card again, but Al Gore had greater liabilities than his presence at Harvard at the fin-de-60s (though his military service certainly innoculated him from some criticism). Only hapless John Kerry, the Vietnam vet and 70s-era McGovernik, faced charges of guilt-by-association with such figures as Hanoi Jane, even though the incumbent president and vice president had both dodged the draft and avoided service in Vietnam. Kerry's problem was not his association with the 60s. It was his campaign's utter inability to neutralize the mendacious Swift Boaters.
It's a sign of the poverty of conservatism that McCain has decided to make a splash in 2008 by running against 1968. I'm sorry to say, but forty years was a long, long time ago. The younger participants in the Summer of Love are pushing sixty. Most Americans just don't have strong feelings about the sixties anymore. The election of 2008 won't be won or lost as a referendum on the 1960s. The presumptive Democratic candidate was scarcely a sentient being then. Obama was not rolling around in the mud at Woodstock or protesting against the Vietnam War or donning a dashiki.
Put yourself in 1968 and imagine candidates shaping a campaign around the issues of 1928--forty years earlier. Old Tricky Dick wouldn't have gotten very far running ads that alluded to prohibition and Catholicism. And Hubert Humphrey attempted to taint Nixon with the Herbert Hooverism to no avail (a sign of the poverty of Democratic rhetoric in the late 1960s).
McCain might not be over the 1960s--and the exhausted conservatives might believe that reigniting the culture wars is their ticket to victory. But at a moment of economic crisis and amidst an unpopular war, I have to ask McCain's advisors: what were you inhaling when you put the ad together.

Lenin, or Saddam, would simply have had them shot and buried in anonymous graves. Mugabe would have sent his thugs to cut off their hands and feet and burn them alive in their own homes. Different situations require different mental models.
In the example Krauthammer cites above, President Uribe had valid situational awareness. The Italian Parliament did not. FARC is not a communal organization of socially aware, progressive peacemakers. It is a gang of murderous thugs who want to enslave the people of Colombia and enrich themselves and their lickspittles.

Unfortunately, many migraine sufferers put off treatment, said study author Stephen Silberstein, MD, of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. This study provides more evidence that treating a migraine at the first sign of pain increases the likelihood of relief.
The research involved two studies with a total of 1,111 people with migraine who had experienced two to six attacks per month in the three months before the study started. Half of the people were given the sumatriptan/naproxen drug within an hour after migraine pain started and while the pain was still mild; the other half were given a placebo.
Two hours after the dose was given, about 50 percent of those who received the drug were free of any pain, compared to about 16 percent of those who got the placebo. The people who took the placebo were also two to three times more likely to progress to moderate or severe pain over four hours than those who took the drug.
Those who took the drug also had fewer traditional migraine-related symptoms such as nausea and sensitivity to light and sound and fewer non-traditional symptoms such as neck and sinus pain than those who took the placebo.
Silberstein noted that only people whose migraines had a mild pain phase were included in the study, so it is not clear whether the results would apply to people whose migraines start at the moderate or severe pain level.
