Haha my father keeps singing "But there are no cats in america" to me. Itapos;s this song from a KIDSapos; MOVIE... Geeez
Tmr is 1 Aug 2008. And Iapos;ve achieved one of my biggest goals for summer 2008. That is, to LEARN HOW TO COOK.
I finally stepped into my kitchen and learnt how to turn on the stoveS And I overcame my fear of bubbling oil... Hehe
Been experimenting.. These are the things that Iapos;ve learnt how to cook:
a) Sunny side-up egg (boring, but staple food)
b) Fried rice paradise
c) Pork chops (western)
d) Pork chops (eastern - hainanese)
e) Oyster-sauce vegetables (haha)
f) Quesadillas
Quesadillas sound the most cheem but are the easiest out of all to make Without any compromising of the taste.
The hardest I would say is prolly the hainanese pork chops cos itapos;s a lot of work... Haha but thatapos;s a for-fun dish so I doubt Iapos;ll actually cook it. Cooking is quite easy But think Iapos;ve been having it really good cos my dad oversees the cooking... So basically he does the hard stuff like flip the pork fillets in the bubbling oil heehee... Oh sth funny happened. He was telling me to get the pork chops out onto the plate with the tissue paper and he was like, "Make sure u turn off the flame first or else the tissue paper will catch fire". And then the next batch of pork chops, he took them out, and he put the tissue paper too near the flame and he was like, "OOOH FIREEEE" Haha what a scare.

Exchanging double kisses is not only standard in fashion circles, it's a sign of sisterhood (or brotherhood, depending). It's like a secret handshake among best friends. Nordstrom's Fall Designer Preview reminded me yet again of this, so I thought I'd provide a tutorial. Before your video lesson, it's important to know that French, Italian, Armenian, and other Mediterranean cultures do double kisses even outside of fashion events. And, unless you've been doing it since adolescence, it's hard not to fear bumping heads with your kisser. My advice is not to think too hard about it and let nature guide you. But first watch the video for specifics.

today reported financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2008.
Company-Wide Operating Results
Net revenue for the second quarter of 2008 increased 81.4% to $1.11 billion, compared to $612.9 million in the second quarter of 2007. Consolidated adjusted property EBITDAR in the second quarter of 2008 was $287.9 million, an increase of 44.1%, compared to $199.8 million in the year-ago quarter. On a GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) basis, operating income was $73.3 million versus operating income of $86.2 million in the second quarter of 2007. The decrease in operating income of $13.0 million reflects an increase in revenue offset by operating expenses, including depreciation and amortization, related to our openings of The Venetian Macao in Macao and The Palazzo in Las Vegas, and an increase in corporate expense as we expand our infrastructure to execute our global growth plans.
Adjusted net income (excluding loss on disposal of assets, pre-opening expense, development expense, and loss on early retirement of debt) was $30.9 million, or adjusted earnings per diluted share of $0.09, compared to $81.9 million, or adjusted earnings per diluted share of $0.23, in the second quarter of 2007. The decrease in adjusted net income of $51.0 million reflects the decrease in operating income mentioned above, as well as increased net interest expense. On a GAAP basis, net loss in the second quarter of 2008 was $8.8 million, or $0.02 per diluted share, compared to net income of $34.4 million, or $0.10 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2007. The decrease in GAAP net income of $43.2 million reflects decrease in operating income mentioned above, as well as increased net interest expense.
Second Quarter Highlights
William P. Weidner, president and COO stated, "Our second quarter results reflect both solid operating performance in Macao and Las Vegas and the measured execution of our global growth and development strategy. In Asia, our efforts to transform Macao into Asia's premier business and leisure destination steadily march forward. The Venetian Macao, the anchor of the Cotai Strip(TM), continues to consistently deliver market-leading visitation to Macao from around the region and the world, while the natural maturation process of the property's operations is now beginning to be reflected in the property's operating results. As we make final preparations for the opening next month of the Cotai Strip's second world-class destination resort, the Four Seasons Macao, we remain focused on the fundamental goal and commitment we share with the people of Macao -- the transformation of Macao into Asia's premier business and leisure destination. We remain confident that the execution of our Cotai Strip development strategy will deliver significant economic benefits to Macao and the entire region, as well as industry-leading returns to our shareholders. In Las Vegas, despite a more challenging economic environment, the combined Venetian and Palazzo complex, the largest integrated destination resort in the world, began to mature and to realize some of the significant operating efficiencies resident in our original master plan. As the Venetian and Palazzo complex continues this maturation process, we believe it is uniquely positioned to deliver strong growth and industry-leading returns in the Las Vegas market for years to come."
Las Vegas Second Quarter Operating Results
Adjusted property EBITDAR for our Las Vegas operations increased 28.1% to $106.6 million in the second quarter of 2008, compared to $83.2 million in the second quarter of 2007. On a GAAP basis, operating income for our Las Vegas operations decreased 26.2% to $42.1 million, compared to $57.0 million in the 2007 period. The increase in adjusted property EBITDAR reflects the opening of The Palazzo. The decrease in operating income reflects the increase in depreciation and amortization expense compared to the quarter one year ago, which is directly related to the opening of The Palazzo.
Las Vegas operations' table games drop was $408.2 million in the second quarter of 2008 versus $281.0 million during the second quarter of 2007, an increase of 45.3%. Slot machine handle (volume) increased 62.8% to $916.1 million in the second quarter of 2008, compared to $562.8 million during the second quarter of 2007. The increases in table games drop and slot handle were the result of the expansion of gaming capacity due to the opening of The Palazzo. Table games win percentage (calculated before discounts) was 20.5% in the second quarter of 2008, compared to 20.1% in the second quarter of last year. This compares to our expected range of 20% to 22%. Slot win percentage (calculated before slot club cash incentives) was 5.5% in the second quarter of 2008, compared to 6.1% in the second quarter last year. Casino revenues for Las Vegas operations were $126.5 million in the second quarter of 2008, compared to $85.4 million a year ago.
Las Vegas operations' hotel revenues increased 52.6% to $142.4 million versus $93.3 million in the second quarter of 2007. The increase in hotel revenues was principally due to the opening of The Palazzo.
The Venetian Las Vegas' average daily rate (ADR) was $245, compared to $266 in the second quarter of 2007. The Venetian's occupancy of available guestrooms decreased to 90.6% during the second quarter of 2008, down from 100.9% during the prior year period, as we chose to spread a portion of The Venetian's booked business over the 7,100 total suite inventory of the combined Venetian and Palazzo complex. Revenue per available room (REVPAR) at The Venetian decreased 17.2% to $222 in the 2008 period, compared to $268 in the second quarter of 2007. In its' second quarter of operation, The Palazzo's ADR was $243, while occupancy of available guestrooms was 92.9%, generating REVPAR of $226.
"The Palazzo, together with the comprehensively renovated Venetian Las Vegas and Sands Expo and Convention Center, now comprise the largest integrated resort and convention destination in the world, with approximately 7,100 all-suite rooms, 2.3 million square feet of meeting, convention and exhibition space, and world-class dining, retail, and entertainment amenities. We expect the significant back-of-house and other operating efficiencies that have been resident in our master plan for the combined complex since its inception to enable us to deliver industry-leading operating margins. We believe that our flexible and adaptable integrated Las Vegas facilities will provide an excellent platform for profitable growth and industry-leading returns, both in today's somewhat challenging economic environment, and in periods of more robust economic growth in the future.

The a/c died again last week. Why does it always have to die on Friday right before shabbos? I think it is a very frum a/c since it like to rest on the seventh day. Michoel, My beloved a/c tech and electrician (not the one who installed the unit) came out 20 minutes before shabbos and did what he could to bring it back to life. By shabbos mid day the a/c control module showed an error message "E3" and the blower was off. Strange thing was that the compressor was still running outside. Sunday comes and I call my good friend Mr. Big at Tornado. Mr. Big has been such a nice guy about the whole ordeal, and this point he has no obligation to really help me since we already established that all this headache was because my moron installer burned the wires during the original installation.
I ask Mr. Big for a whole new a/c unit and he politley says no, and he explained to me why, and I told him he was correct, it is not their fault, why should they pay for a new one. Mr. Big then lets me know that it is probably the contact that blew. The contact is the part of the a/c compressor that regulates the electricity going in and out of the unit (I think). Since the a/c was constantly shorting in the previous months, it most probably finally prematurely gave out. Mr. Big promised me someone would come out the next morning to repair the faulty part, and I was once again very impressed by his manner.
Two hours later I get a call from the guy who originally installs my a/c. He is screaming about how I should have called him and how could he fix it if he doesn't know. Let's call him Jack, as in "you don't know Jack about a/c installation". Jack comes right over and is now trying to be my best friend, begging me to let him fix the a/c. I agree to let him redo all the wiring that Michoel did, since we never put the wiring in the wall, and that would save me 500 Shek. Jack promises me he will be back the next morning to fix everything. Jack was very adamant that I call him again if there was an issue, he wanted to be my new best friend, even rudely looking over my shoulder at my laptop as I was typing.
Of course what Jack really wanted was the a/c installation on some other stuff I was working on, and the original contractor told him I was not going to use him. Do you think he would have rushed over if I didn't have a carrot to dangle? I think not. Needless to say, I already decided to use Michoel for the install a long time ago.
The next day Tornado and Jack come back first thing in the morning. Jack and the Tornado tech fix the a/c, Jack of course doesn't do the work the way I wanted it, but it is his problem now, not mine. The thing is working for a day, when of course it stops; same problem that we had on shabbos, control module shows error code "E8" and the compressor stays on with no blower.
I call Jack, he makes a remark, "yeah error code E8, no big deal, I will be there in the morning to fix". Of course he never shows, chickens out and has Tornado call me to set up a time to come today. I hate fixing these things before shabbos, since they inevitably break again on shabbos and ruin my whole shabbos.
WHEN WILL IT END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Well it had been a few months since we had made our way down to White River in Auburn for a round of Disc Golf. They currently have the course in its summer configuration. Holes 4-6 have been moved into the woods and the order is very different now. Thank goodness we had Dean Linda to tour guide us through the changes because it would have been easy to get lost. We also were able to play Hole 16 for the first time in a while now that the river has gone down a bit. All in all it was a great day to be out and about.
We had a strong showing on Sunday of 11 people. Jason M brought his friend Mark out for the first time and I hope he makes a regular showing. He is a very skilled player and we love competition here at Roundbrand, so the more the merrier. We broke up into 5 teams and went out and just kicked that courses butt. The lowest score of the five teams would have been good enough to win just a few months ago. Kudos to everyone for how much improvement we are seeing.
Shot of the day? There were many that I got to witness. Richard made a couple of nice putts for us to get us birdies. Cathy had a fantastic birdie putt on 10 as did Jonathan on 15. I made a drive on 9 that snaked through the trees and dropped right at the basket for an easy birdie. Richard equaled that on Hole 15. Add on a couple of long turbo putts for birdie by me and we saw a ton of great shots today.
This one came down to the bitter end. After 15 holes Richard and I were sitting at 3 under par while Jonathan and Cathy were at 1 under and Jason M and Mark were even. Jason M Mark went 1 over on the last three to finish with the same score for the round. Jonathan and Cathy parred out to finish at 1 under. Richard and I flat choked missing putts on all 3 holes and getting two bogeys along the way. That left us with two teams finishing the day at 1 under par. By far the best showing we have ever had and it forced a playoff.
Back to Hole 1 we went. Richard and I had the more favorable tee shot but did not convert the birdie so we had to go to a second hole. Jonathan and Cathy played smartly and got a par to win the day while Richard and I completed our free fall from dominance with a bogey to end it. It was an amazing showing by all and even if we did lose, I must admit I am excited about finally getting under par for the first time.
Enjoy the Scores.

Youth Football Coaching Lessons Learned From Coaching Girls Sports?
Many of you youth football coaches out there have daughters playing sports, we do too. Like many of you I’ve coached these sports almost against my own will, I just can’t get very excited about that communist plot designed to take over the world also known as soccer and it’s fellow traveler, t-ball. But I love my kids, so that will take precedence.
Most of the time I agree to coach the girls because I hate turning my kids down since I spend so much time coaching youth football. The other reason I coach is because of the atrociously poor level of youth coaching out there.
My Name is Dave and Im a Coach
Last spring we did the “S” word. I agreed to coach, (try not to throw up guys) bought a book, watched a couple of videos, suffered through one coaching clinic, got on the internet for tips and went to study a few practices of the best and worst soccer clubs in the area. We decided to concentrate our efforts on several critical success factors and skills and broke down all the movements into progressions just like we do in youth football. We then developed these progression and skill development drills into fun games, just like we do when we are coaching youth football. We also used many of the player management techniques in the book as well as parent management and game management philosophies.
The net result was we had a very competitive team, the kids had a blast, everyone played a ton and the parents were very happy. The parents got happier each and every game as they got to see the lack of organization, lack of “fun” level and lack of skill development of the teams we played. Up until this experience, I had never watched more than 5 minutes of a soccer game, let alone ever have played the game. Hopefully I won’t EVER have to watch another game again unless the kids decide they want to play another season. I’m very prayerful that they will choose something else. I am proud to say that All of the kids on the team looked forward to coming to practice and the games and all of the players gave me a nice hug before and after each game (coaching girls is definitely different).
On The Other Hand
On the other hand, this year the girls decided they wanted to play t-ball. Since I do so many football coaching clinics in the Spring, I couldn’t coach them. The mistake was I took them to the first practice. The previous 2 weeks I had been working with the girls on some of the basics, defensive stance, approaching grounders, scooping grounders, ball transfer, correct throwing motion, batters stance, plate relationship, grip, batting progression, base running, pop flys, and playing catch. Mainly I was just spending time with them so they knew I was interested and cared. I was also trying to give them a baseline skill set so they wouldn’t be nervous or afraid at their first practice.
We arrived early and saw that practice was about to start and there was only 1 coach there for 12 kids. I asked the if she needed any help, she said no. I asked her in a very friendly manner what was on the agenda and she replied “We just want to make sure the kids don’t get bored, we will probably let them all hit some”. Well during the first 10 minutes all the kids played “catch” with each other, which was more like fetch, there was zero instruction during this time period. Some of the kids were so green. they were still struggling to keep their gloves on properly. I knew we were in trouble.
The Disaster
Then to my amazement, with ZERO training on how to approach grounders, field grounders, ball transfer or even a stance, she assigned each player a position and started hitting infield. In the meantime, those not selected to play infield went to the outfield and were “catching” pop flies from the second coach that just arrived, again with zero instruction.
As you may have guessed, the infield drill was a disaster as she would go from player to player and instruct them individually after they flubbed up. I guess this was her idea of making sure the kids didn’t get bored. After about 30 minutes of this nonsense, it finally came to an end as she started batting practice. Each player was brought to the plate with ZERO instruction while the other 11 players shagged. Only after the player struck out did the coach come up to offer some help. There was no group reps, no group discussion, no progressions taught etc. Mind you the kids were SO BORED many were sitting down or even looking away from the batter as they took “batting” practice, even when 1 of the players ( coaches son who was 2 years older than anyone on the team) came up to bat and was spraying the infield with laser guided rope line drives. This was a huge safety issue and a lawsuit waiting to happen, the kid was a swtich hitter ahd hot over 80% line drives.
Dental Work Required
I was gritting my teeth so hard during this that I thought my teeth would be nubs by the end of this travesty they called a practice. I literally called my wife on the cell phone and faced away from “practice” until it ended. The next day we called the league president and calmly requested that my kids be placed on a team that would be safely and competently coached. To my delight the next practice with our new team saw 4 coaches playing catch the correct way with players divided up in groups of threes. The coaches tossed the ball to each player only after the player got into the proper stance, then the ball went back to the coach. I saw nice bucket drills being done with good “alligator” grounder scooping technique being taught. What a relief, I did not want to have to coach t-ball this year and the girls were now in competent hands.
What separated the first team from the second team the girls played on? One was coached by someone that took the time to learn how to properly coach the age group he was coaching. The other team may have been “coached” by someone that knew the game, but they had no clue of how to effectively and efficiently transfer whatever knowledge they had to the kids. They had no clue on how to organize an effective practice or how to make it fun. They also made the game boring and drudgery for most of the group, of which my guess is most will never go on to play beyond that first horrific experience.
Effective Youth Coaching
What do little kids t-ball and soccer have to do with competitive tackle football? The moral of the story is effective coaching has many universal truths that transcend each sport. Most guys that are very effective basketball or baseball coaches can be trained to be effective football coaches. Most of them understand how to organize practices, set priorities, break down movements and most importantly seek out help. When I was in Omaha I coached baseball too. The last 3 baseball teams I coached were the best in the league and didn’t lose a single game and I’m not a very good baseball player. We just took the same approach to coaching baseball that as we did in football and it worked out very well.
We all know that at the youngest age groups the first rule in coaching any sport is “Do No Harm”, but when a team is coached that poorly even though there is no negative intent, harm is done.
I hope never to be the coach that inspires teeth grinding in my players parents, no matter what sport Im coaching.

Lots of the main online poker sites that cater to North American consumers and several sports betting operations of high volume have been given a painful blow by payment services that followed the shutting of a check processing issue. The online poker area was particularly affected because of their high volume. Such companies aren’t able to use more solid processing firms that are based in North America because of the current legislation. Check processing firms have trouble operating high volume companies.
